As a direct product of the actions envisaged within BIOXISOIL, the main results achieved have been:
The expected contamination reduction rates.
An increased knowledge and understanding of how to optimize the biological and chemical technologies combination in hydrocarbon contaminated soils recovery.
A protocol for applying these techniques in other emplacement.
The abiotic, biotic and landscape conditions of the site through environmental restoration actions has been improved.
The monitoring the evolution of decontaminating processes through CO2 emissions has been carried out.
A complete assessment of different technologies has been applied in terms of greenhouse gases.
The creation of a demonstrative and educational environment about the decontamination technologies has been used and the restoration carried out.
In order to see how the chemical oxidation technology has acted on the ground, a model of the injection process has been built on the general edaphic model present in La Clica.
The site capacities as a carbon sink have been improved. Thanks to the vegetal growth and to the contribution in organic matter that it produces with the defoliation, the CO2 capture of the site has been improved. And in future remedial species may be used for energy purposes thanks to their high biomass.
Based on planting carried out, initially oriented on phyto-recovery, a total restoration has been achieved with native vegetal species. This covers two aspects: landscape and the creation of a suitable habitat for several fauna species of conservation interest in the Natural Park context, including the common chameleon (Chamaeleo chamaeleon)
